Schmutz beneath the screen protector hasn't been an issue for me. My phone including its screen still looks brand-new out of the box. Some schmutz gets between the screen and the screen protector now and then but it's minimal. Definitely not a concern. Liquid is a bigger problem.
The water resistance of the top of the case and screen protector has diminished quite a bit as the case has aged. I suspect it's the result of the glue that holds the screen protector to the plastic interior wearing out. When water gets under the screen protector, I use it as an opportunity to remove the case entirely and give it a heavy-duty cleaning inside and out.
Maybe OWC will produce a KX case that has wireless charging built into it. I like the KX case and the only reason I don't have one is the screen protector issue. I like the built-in screen protector.

Robert, to each his own.
I would like to see a lightning Qi charger adapter with magnetic charging tip at the end for older devices/iPads. Combining two technologies into one. Easy solution of having the port blocked with current Qi adapter pads.
Currently looking at two options for charging my daughters iPad. I’m going to make a stand with a qi charger built in or magnetic charging tip on it for my daughters iPad. So she can just drop it in after she is done using it.

I'll loan y'all my lovely wife, and you'll figure out the benefits of wireless charging fairly quickly. I;m running out of bodily digits on which to count the cables spousal unit has wrecked. We have multi-port chargers in each of our main living areas, to accommodate our many devices, mUSB, USB C, and lightning (R.I.P. 30 pin). Somehow that other person seems to think bending cable ends is an Olympic sport for the geriatric crowd, and she is hell-bent on making the team. In addition to "Save the whales", there should be a movement to "Save the cables", which would include mandatory wireless charging for cable benders.

So last year I bought 90º cables -- and damn if it didnt work -- still going strong.

FUD as humor. Who knew.
Wireless charging is about convenience.
Wear and tear in the Lightning port is silly.
My 5s was charged every day for 5yrs, sometimes twice a day. Any wear would need an electron microscope to detect it.
One small consideration might be inadvertently compacting lint into the port, but that can be easily cleaned out.
The loss of charging efficiency is something, but a very small something.
A friend has a Tacoma with a built in charging pad, part of some package. He has a 7 'Phone so it doesn't help him yet, but just drop a compatible phone in the tray, and it's charging.
It's not a deal at all for me to plug and unplug my 'Phone for charging, but I confess I'd be very quickly spoiled by wireless charging.
