Re: Aunt Jemima gets its new name - mattkime - 02-10-2021 I wasn't aware of Aunt Jemima's racist origins but I think its reasonable we look for guidance from those affected by this history. Re: Aunt Jemima gets its new name - NewtonMP2100 - 02-10-2021 .....this makes my.....Jemima hurt....... Re: Aunt Jemima gets its new name - mikebw - 02-10-2021 Wow looks like a lot of work on that re-brand. :RollingEyesSmiley5: Although I suppose they wanted to maintain as much recognition as possible, just you know, without the showing the same person and name. To continue the discussion about real vs. fake, as a kid my parents always had real upstate NY maple syrup. I thought it was thin, and absolutely savored any chance to get the extra thick fake stuff, LOG CABIN I thought was the best thing. Now as an adult I have changed opinions, thick is still OK but I prefer real. Re: Aunt Jemima gets its new name - NewtonMP2100 - 02-10-2021 ......that's [ exactly ] what she said.......!!!! Re: Aunt Jemima gets its new name - Markintosh - 02-10-2021 It used to always be Aunt Jemima, Mrs Butterworths or Western Family as I grew up. But Mrs Markintosh converted me to what might be true maple syrup, usually from Costco or Trader Joes. I just came here to say that the new name is ridiculous. They should have gone with something generic like "My Grandma's" Re: Aunt Jemima gets its new name - mrbigstuff - 02-10-2021 I'm amazed that some folks think real stuff is sweeter. I guess if one were to measure it in a lab, possibly. But the real stuff has so much more of a complex flavor profile. Re: Aunt Jemima gets its new name - Acer - 02-10-2021 The real and the fake are two different products. It's OK to like one over the other. Real maple does have a strong maple flavor. They make it in different grades, though. Lighter-colored syrups are not as strongly maple. The darker stuff is more readily made so it's cheaper and more likely encountered by casuals. Re: Aunt Jemima gets its new name - decay - 02-10-2021 There are hundreds of stupid product names, many not chosen because of changing awareness of social norms. Like others have said, names don't make a product better or worse. It's all perception. Check out these drink mixes: ![]() Re: Aunt Jemima gets its new name - MikeF - 02-10-2021 Bourbon barrel aged real: Re: Aunt Jemima gets its new name - Numo - 02-10-2021 I’ll bet the name choice was a committee decision. Unfortunately. |
