Smart:
Performance

Maximum speed 90 mph
Acceleration 0–60 mph 12.8 sec

Fuel consumption*
City/highway (mpg) 40/45 (EPA 2007); 33/41 (EPA 2008)

My Scion xA gets 32 city and 39mpg highway real life numbers not EPA estimates.
It has 4 doors and is much bigger than the Smart.

[quote simonm]All other space is charged per square foot, why not parking?
If US cities did this I would soon expect to see double decker clown cars all over the place. A small footprint with a tall overhead compartment for storage (in lieu of a trunk behind you).

You do realize the Smart requires premium fuel?

Re: My new Smart car is on its way! - AllGold - 01-15-2008

Premium, seriously? If for real, that would really suck.

Re: My new Smart car is on its way! - Bill in NC - 01-15-2008

yes, 91 octane minimum.

[quote ztirffritz]I seriously doubt that you get better than 50 MPG from a Corolla unless you travel perpetually downhill with a tailwind. The Smart cars get between 50-60 mpg with gas engines. 80-85 with diesel engines

[quote Mr. Ed][quote ztirffritz][quote Dakota]A lot of small cars these days can match its mpg and certainly surpass it in features.
True. Which are there:
Yaris
Fit
.
.
.
?

I get better gas mileage with my '04 Corolla (stick shift).
I'm seeing the Smart Car listed at 33 mpg in city and 41 on highway. I get real life 38 mpg in my small community and 48 mpg on the highway. I use 87 octane gas. I've got lots of room. I paid $14,000+ new.
