Re: So long Blockbuster... - kap - 04-07-2009 Reb Box will expand to hundreds of supermarkets, stores, etc. Re: So long Blockbuster... - freeradical - 04-07-2009 Seacrest wrote: But if Netflix raises their prices, and continues to prosper, then others will jump in the game, bringing competition and [eventually, hopefully] lowering prices. Exactly, and they already have competition. Greencine is an alternative that I could use if I wanted to. Netflix is not a monopoly; if they were, they wouldn't have to advertise with all of those annoying popups/popunders etc. Re: So long Blockbuster... - sunfalcon - 04-07-2009 i just returned a video to red box today. Wish I would have gotten in on that one. $1 to rent. Very convenient. Re: So long Blockbuster... - SteveO - 04-07-2009 sunfalcon wrote: Color me confused. It sounds like you DID get in on that one. Re: So long Blockbuster... - AAA - 04-07-2009 He means go into business with Red Box or competition. Re: So long Blockbuster... - Marc Anthony - 04-07-2009 The local Blockbuster has dropped their prices to $2 for new releases and $1 for "favorites", which is to say everything older than new releases. I've started renting movies again with increasing regularity. I'd much rather drive down the block to rent a movie instantly than to have to wait on one in the mail, and it keeps people employed, unlike these automated box things that are popping up. Kiosk style checkout—be it at a rental counter, the grocery store, or Home Depot—is putting real people out of work, and I don't want anything to do with that, especially given the current economic climate. I hope BlockBuster can ride out their hard times. Re: So long Blockbuster... - freeradical - 04-07-2009 Marc Anthony wrote: How are these things doing that? Someone has to build those kiosks, install and maintain them, as well as add and remove movies from them. I, Pencil is a great read. Yes, there is some level of employment generated from kiosk point of sale devices, but the number of people they displace is a level greater, resulting in a net job loss. Surely you don't believe that the Red Box operation can compare to Blockbuster in terms of scale? Re: So long Blockbuster... - Buzz - 04-08-2009 maybe BB needs to come up w/ streaming video on demand paradigm to stay afloat... Re: So long Blockbuster... - 3d - 04-08-2009 Oh nose! I buy all my DVDs (pre-viewed) there. 3/$20. |
