Wishing you all the best, Grateful. Perhaps you've had an unfortunate confluence of two health problems at once which has made this harder to figure out. In any case, I hope whatever is wrong is easy to treat and you will be posting good news for us.

I asked Dr Janie about your original post. She says, "If he's right-handed, ask his wife if he had any speech problems during the numbness episode." That would be additional evidence of a left-brain TIA, in addition to combined leg and arm numbness.

Given the chest pain, she also suggests the possibility of a dissection of the aorta, which subsequently recanalized (did not rupture), but sent cholesterol plaques to the brain, causing a TIA. Such plaques usually dissolve, and if there is no death of brain tissue, will not show up on MRI. For diagnosis, you might need an angiogram using a catheter, which would be performed by a vascular surgeon.

This is just an hypothesis, and your neurologist will certainly think of it, but you might mention it, and also to your internist or whomever you see for follow-up of these problems.

Good luck! Are you having fun yet?

Hope you feel well and get back to normal soon!

I went to my GP yesterday afternoon and he was a little bit shocked at what happened considering my blood work numbers and BP have always been pretty darn good. He said he couldn't rule out a TIA either. He wants me to keep my appointment with my Neurosurgeon's PA in 3 weeks. He said my wife did the right thing by calling 911.

It would sure be nice to know exactly what happened but I can't sit around and worry about the possibility that it might happen again. Just going to try and drop some more weight and get myself in a little better shape. I have dropped 5 1/2 pounds since July. I'm 6'1" and weigh 225 so I have a ways to go.

Thanks again for all the well wishes.

Mr. Lynn thank you for asking Dr. Janie. I am right handed. My wife said there was no speech problems in the ER. It seemed to me that there was but I was Fentanyl and was a bit loopy.

Grateful, what did your doctor say about the chest pain? If there was a chance you were experiencing an aneurysm, that's something you should get worked up soon. Maybe see the specialist(s) sooner?
