scanning checks and making deposits from home - space-time - 07-09-2011

I saw those TV ads (I believe from Chase) where they say you can scan the check or even take a picture with your smartphone and make a deposit, you don't have to take the check to the bank/ATM to make a deposit.

I have BofA, Citibank and ING and I didn't see any option like this when I looked a few days ago. I wonder if other banks besides Chase offer this feature.

I don't get a lot of checks (direct deposit for most things) but once in a while I may have to deposit a check and this feature would be welcome.

Thanks

Ive seen some local credit unions that offer it -- but nobody else besides chase.

I have chase and an iPhone and have yet to use the feature.

Takes 2 days for the check to process using the "scanning" method and the actual bank is only a few blocks away.

USAA also allows iPhone deposits. I think the banking is open to anyone.

ING says it's coming very soon, and have a placeholder page for it, but they have not implemented it yet as of yesterday.

PNC [a national bank, I think?] does the iPhone deposit thing and I've done a couple of checks, but they limit the amount to something like $1000 a month so when I had a $3K check to deposit and rushed for time because I was going out of town I was bummed. Also, my iPhone [original 4GB] sometimes can't do a photo clear enough for them to accept it. It does have a really bad camera.

thanks for your answers folks. Look like I will have to wait for ING then.

U.S. Bank also offers it. It's been great for me, but for some reason, it won't work on my Mac. Have to use Parallels.

I don't have a scanner hooked up and ready to go so I am not sure which is more work.

I have 2 AIO so scanning is not the problem for me.

I've done it with USAA - probably as far back as 5 years ago.

Haven't since, but I use it on rare occasions to move my own money around
via a check (just extra proof) because the electronic method can take 7+ days
while they play the float with your money on both sides.
