Okay, here's one for you (can't install). - wurm - 01-13-2013 I'm about to start getting this Macbook ready to sell as mentioned in this thread, and I inserted the Leopard Install CD 1 that came with it, restarted holding down the "C" key and after a while of spinning, I get a window that says "This OS can not be installed on this computer." To which I reply "Huh!?" (to no avail). It's running Snow Leopard now. How can it not run Leopard? Any thoughts? Re: Okay, here's one for you (can't install). - GGD - 01-13-2013 You mentioned that it was a Core Duo (not Core 2 Duo), so that makes it the first generation Intel MacBooks. Those shipped with Tiger, not Leopard. Where did this Leoperd DVD come from? Any chance that it was an Upgrade DVD, and is expecting to find 10.4 installed on the hard drive? Re: Okay, here's one for you (can't install). - wurm - 01-13-2013 Ooh..that's a good question. These discs might have been from my son's Core 2 Duo. Crap. Although, shouldn’t it still be able to install Leopard? As I said, it's running Snow Leopard now. Re: Okay, here's one for you (can't install). - GGD - 01-13-2013 It should be able to install a retail Leopard DVD, but if those were the original computer specific DVDs for another computer, they probably have checks for the specific hardware that they were shipped with. Re: Okay, here's one for you (can't install). - space-time - 01-13-2013 yeah, some CD/DVD check and will not install on other machines. You would be able to install Leopard if you had the original disk, or a retail disk, but one from another generation will check and refuse to install. Re: Okay, here's one for you (can't install). - ArtP - 01-13-2013 Aren't some of those discs Machine specific. Even though they are both Macbooks from around the same time period, if the Mac ID or model doesn't match the shipping disc so it won't install. I remember having issues with some of the color CRT iMacs back in the day (I think that is when they started with the mac specific discs???). Re: Okay, here's one for you (can't install). - wurm - 01-13-2013 Well, that seems to be the consensus. Thanks. I guess I'll see if my Snow Leopard Install Discs will work. And I'll either have to hunt down the original Tiger CDs, or not include install discs with the sale. Bummer. Re: Okay, here's one for you (can't install). - GGD - 01-13-2013 You can still buy the Snow Leopard Retail DVD for $20 from Apple. Best deal you can get on OS install media for that computer. http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard Re: Okay, here's one for you (can't install). - wurm - 01-13-2013 I have the SL retail disc. But I was hoping to include the original OS install discs with the sale. |
