I'm about to start getting this Macbook ready to sell as mentioned in
this thread, and I inserted the Leopard Install CD 1 that came with it, restarted holding down the "C" key and after a while of spinning, I get a window that says "This OS can not be installed on this computer."
To which I reply "Huh!?" (to no avail). It's running Snow Leopard now. How can it not run Leopard? Any thoughts?

You mentioned that it was a Core Duo (not Core 2 Duo), so that makes it the first generation Intel MacBooks. Those shipped with Tiger, not Leopard. Where did this Leoperd DVD come from?
Any chance that it was an Upgrade DVD, and is expecting to find 10.4 installed on the hard drive?

Ooh..that's a good question. These discs might have been from my son's Core 2 Duo. Crap. Although, shouldn’t it still be able to install Leopard? As I said, it's running Snow Leopard now.

It should be able to install a retail Leopard DVD, but if those were the original computer specific DVDs for another computer, they probably have checks for the specific hardware that they were shipped with.

yeah, some CD/DVD check and will not install on other machines. You would be able to install Leopard if you had the original disk, or a retail disk, but one from another generation will check and refuse to install.

Aren't some of those discs Machine specific. Even though they are both Macbooks from around the same time period, if the Mac ID or model doesn't match the shipping disc so it won't install. I remember having issues with some of the color CRT iMacs back in the day (I think that is when they started with the mac specific discs???).

Well, that seems to be the consensus. Thanks.
I guess I'll see if my Snow Leopard Install Discs will work. And I'll either have to hunt down the original Tiger CDs, or not include install discs with the sale. Bummer.

I have the SL retail disc. But I was hoping to include the original OS install discs with the sale.
