FREE AOL (BYO broadband) - jimbrady - 07-25-2006 Yes, it's like free root canal, but wouldn't root canal be less painful if you weren't billed for it? I stole this deal from Fatwallet, and just did it myself. It worked. I'll never be billed again (previously $7/month so my wife could keep her 14 year old screen name goiing). ----------------------------------------- Call 1-888-265-8003 Select Cancellation Department Tell them that you access AOL via your Broadband provider and heard that AOL is offering free access provided that you utilize your broadband connection (non-AOL). If they give it to you, they'll read off a bunch of terms and conditions. New plan is effective immediately. ------------------------------------------- They tried to sign me up for various pay services, and I said, look let's just pretend I'm going to cancel the account and go through those motions. Bingo. Pay for dial-up, and a $5 surcharge if you use premium services (I don't even know what those are). Re: FREE AOL (BYO broadband) - MGS_forgot_password - 07-25-2006 I think access to the cancellation department is considered a premium service. Re: FREE AOL (BYO broadband) - jimbrady - 07-25-2006 >I think access to the cancellation department is considered a premium service. Of course! So that was my last free premium activity. Re: FREE AOL (BYO broadband) - Seacrest - 07-25-2006 Thx! Re: FREE AOL (BYO broadband) - incognegro - 07-25-2006 a root canal is something that hurts that you NEED. nobody NEEDs AOL. nobody. Re: FREE AOL (BYO broadband) - M A V I C - 07-25-2006 [quote incognegro]nobody NEEDs AOL. nobody. I need it. I think I'm gonna go for this offer too. Re: FREE AOL (BYO broadband) - JoeM - 07-25-2006 Guys that are taking this, what are you going to be doing with AOL? I'm thinking if you're a web developer, you might want it to check how your sites parse in it. Any other reason to have AOL? I'm thinking if you're a web developer, you might want it to check how your sites parse in it. Any other reason to have AOL? I use it for email addresses that have services related to them. I have tried to migrate all these accounts to my own email address, but that's not as easy as it sounds. I think AOL now uses the MSIE rendering engine on Windows, so I do not believe it is worth testing pages in or developing pages to. Of course she doesn't really need it, but it keeps showing up on the CC bill... until now. They have for a while, but they tweak it a bit so it's not exact. Some things just don't work the same. And that's just for Windows... for Macs it's a much different beast. That's the main reason I have AOL. The other is a screename I've used for over a decade and don't feel like losing it for AIM. |
