questions for those with traditional land lines - space-time - 10-17-2013 can you still choose the long distance carrier? when I came to US in mid 1990's I had Bell Atlantic as local provider and I was shopping around between long distance providers, MCI, ATT, etc. I think there was a 3rd carrier as well for regional calls, not local but not quite distance. I gave up my copper line a few years ago, and even before that all my outgoing calls were VOIP so I haven't used a copper line for outgoing calls in about 10 years. I'm sure there are serve rap "traditional" choices, but not too knowledgable about it. For what it's worth, when I WAS with AT&T, I did have a choice in long distance carriers. Yes. - RAMd®d - 10-17-2013 I had a choice and went with ATT, until I got Sonic as my iSP. Re: questions for those with traditional land lines - Speedy - 10-17-2013 It's about $10 cheaper to use VoIP for us (Charter vs. AT$T), maybe more. Nationwide calling is included. But now we use an Ooma. As far as I know, if you have a landline, you can still shop for long distance. It's been several years since I paid a long distance fee.
