questions for those with traditional land lines
#1
can you still choose the long distance carrier? when I came to US in mid 1990's I had Bell Atlantic as local provider and I was shopping around between long distance providers, MCI, ATT, etc. I think there was a 3rd carrier as well for regional calls, not local but not quite distance. I gave up my copper line a few years ago, and even before that all my outgoing calls were VOIP so I haven't used a copper line for outgoing calls in about 10 years.

We used to have AT+T , now used the Comcast bundled package
for everything. I'm sure there are serve rap "traditional" choices, but
not too knowledgable about it.

Yes - I still have a traditional telephone:

But my service is via Time Warner cable, not AT&T POTS, and has been for five years now.

For what it's worth, when I WAS with AT&T, I did have a choice in long distance carriers.

I had a choice and went with ATT, until I got Sonic as my iSP.

It's about $10 cheaper to use VoIP for us (Charter vs. AT$T), maybe more. Nationwide calling is included. But now we use an Ooma.

I have a regular landline with Verizon, but I have some other company (Airspring, I think) for my long distance.

As far as I know, if you have a landline, you can still shop for long distance.

I have the Comcast bundle too; TV, interwebs, and landline. It is $20 a month (phone) for local and long distance.

I use Google Voice for all my long distance calls on my land line (FREE).

It's been several years since I paid a long distance fee.

Amazing how many people without a landline answer a question addressed to those who have a landline Smile
