ductless mini splits - Fritz - 09-03-2014 who knows? I'm thinking 2 or 3 zones at most. 1200 sq ft total. 400 up, 800 down. as a crow flies I'd say the 2 head ends would be about 50' apart, max. Prolly less. I assume these are more efficient then 10 and 15yo ttw A/Cs. Right now we have a 12k, and 8k and a 1500. Are the conduits pretty sturdy for inclement weather? Are they cooling only or can they heat as well? Currently we just use the AC on killer days (like the last 2). I assume we could use a ductless system the same and we wouldn't need to cool 24/7 once th season starts. A day to install? $4k or so all in? Muffman - 09-03-2014 I don't know about the cost, but the SEER for better brands ranges from 14 to 20. Higher numbers are only possible installed on the north side of the house. The cost to install depends on local labor costs. This used to be a good place but I have not read it much since I moved away from regular outside temps over the 90's. http://hvac-talk.com/vbb/forum.php Re: ductless mini splits - Pat - 09-03-2014 billb wrote: Re: ductless mini splits - Robert M - 09-03-2014 Fritz, My parents just looked into a ductless mini split. The number you listed is similar to the price they were quoted. However, factor in the cost of an electrician and necessary permit(s). Both are necessary in Nassau county. That and get quotes from a couple of other plumbing/HVAC/etc people. The price will vary but I doubt it'll vary that much. My parents decided to just stick with their window a/c units, which are all energystar certified models. Old energystar but still very efficient. The standards to meet energystar change over the years. How often the standards changes varies from product to product. Robert Re: ductless mini splits - Fritz - 09-03-2014 thanks for the useful and rabbits with plates of meat spinning information. I'm shocked and disappointed that we don't have an HVAC expert here. Perhaps we should do some interviews and marketing. Re: ductless mini splits - eustacetilley - 09-03-2014 Fritz wrote:thanks for the useful and rabbits with plates of meat spinning information. (For what it's worth, I actually am an HVAC expert. I'm also an UHVAC expert. If you want some advice on Ultra High VACuum stuff, well, here I am.) Eustace |
