Is anything user upgradeable in the new Minis - space-time - 10-17-2014 Some said RAM is soldered on, someone else said SSD is not an option except at time of purchase ... Can you add an SSD later or not? Re: Is anything user upgradeable in the new Minis - C(-)ris - 10-17-2014 All conjecture till someone gets one. Re: Is anything user upgradeable in the new Minis - Gareth - 10-17-2014 I've read the 2014 mini has PCIe SSD storage, so while that is theoretically possible to upgrade, no one makes cards for it (yet). Same goes for the recent Airs and Retina MBP's. Presumably, you could replace the regular hard drive with a 2.5" SSD though. Re: Is anything user upgradeable in the new Minis - deckeda - 10-17-2014 Transcend Jetdrive for MBA and MBP: http://www.transcend-info.com/apple/jetdrive/ Someone else makes one too. Probably works in the new mini. Not a promise! Re: Is anything user upgradeable in the new Minis - sekker - 10-17-2014 deckeda wrote: Those upgrades are for pre-2013 MBAs, and older MBPRs. AFAIK, the only potential change for the new minis is the single 2.5" SSD slot. You can get a HD and then swap in an SSD. But you cannot then have a fusion drive. Re: Is anything user upgradeable in the new Minis - Chakravartin - 10-17-2014 Gareth wrote: It may be that the slot for the Fusion drive SSD will be used for the SSD-only option. In that case, there might be a mount and a SATA port that can be used if you want to add a hard drive. Some iMacs had that config... others were made without the mounting posts and with only a painted spot on the mobo to indicate where the SATA port would go. Just speculation until someone cracks one open. Re: Is anything user upgradeable in the new Minis - RAMd®d - 10-17-2014 Those few who want to upgrade internal storage will be out of luck at some level, depending on their preference. But using external storage will still be the choice of most, anyway. Re: Is anything user upgradeable in the new Minis - Bill in NC - 10-17-2014 Isn't Apple using the new M.2 standard for SSDs? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M.2 Maybe OWC Larry can clarify. Re: Is anything user upgradeable in the new Minis - silvarios - 10-17-2014 Stop harshing on Apple, the whole darn thing is user replaceable. Just swap in a new model when you get tired of the old model. Thanks, I'll be here all week. While not common, at least there are replacement parts already on the market. |
