I've been introduced to Comcast -- it really is bad - Ombligo - 06-14-2015 My son just moved to a city where Comcast is the only broadband service. First they charge me $10 for a self-connect kit which was a cable patch, a cat5 cable, and a signal splitter. Then it didn't work when I hooked it up on Friday. A call to Comcast got a repair guy here today. Turns out the cable outside was disconnected. He fixed that but it still didn't work. They claim my Motorola Surfboard 6141 is not compatible anymore. Yet it was working hardwire with my MBP. But when you plug it into my 4th Gen Airport, no internet. the airport does everything else, I've been transferring files, etc with it for the last two days. His suggestion - either rent one of their modems or buy a similar one (a basic Arris modem). He then left and said to just use the xfinitywifi until I figure it out. Which is what I'm on, except it goes out constantly (he said that was pretty normal) ARRRRGHHHH!!!! Re: I've been introduced to Comcast -- it really is bad - rgG - 06-14-2015 They don't call them Comcrap for no reason. You had a good day dealing with them. It can/will get so much worse. Re: I've been introduced to Comcast -- it really is bad - space-time - 06-14-2015 Airport works, modem works, just make sure you reboot both, try first modem, then router, if not the other way around. Re: I've been introduced to Comcast -- it really is bad - SteveG - 06-14-2015 I really feel for you. With Jurassic World pulling in $511 Million for them this weekend, that means Comcast will be forced to curtail customer service and raise rates. Re: I've been introduced to Comcast -- it really is bad - SteveG - 06-14-2015 Oh, and on Monday, Comcast is going to announce that all NBC programming will be in Standard Black and White, with "Comcast Color NBC" being a premium channel. NBC Comcast's new logo: ![]() Re: I've been introduced to Comcast -- it really is bad - Ombligo - 06-14-2015 Luckily our Comcrap exposure is minimal -- internet only (he laughed at the idea of paying for cable, and just glared at his mother when she asked about a landline telephone) Anyway -- I accomplished what they weren't able too. The reboot was a start but it needed more. So I reset the airport base, then powered down both it and the modem. I then powered up the modem, then powered up the base station. Then I reconfigured the base station. Finally I ran a firmware update to the base station and let it cycle through again. Finally I had everything working wireless - and we still get to pay them for the Trouble call for the initial hookup. Now I FULLY understand why nearly every house on his street is sporting a satellite dish. Re: I've been introduced to Comcast -- it really is bad - PeterW - 06-14-2015 Those dishes are strictly for sat TV. No one selects sat internet if they have ANY alternative.
