speaking of music (jazz) - AllGold - 09-22-2015 Anyone know of another good example of tight horn sections like Jerry Hey's contributions to Al Jarreau albums? Here's an example (the end of "Save Me" also continuing through the next couple tracks, "Step by Step" and "Black and Blues"): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XQaksyUJvwA&feature=youtu.be&t=1120 Also "High Crime" from a different album and several other tracks where Jerry Hey's arrangements and playing are prominent and hot. Jerry Hey arranged most of the tremendous horns in many classic Earth Wind & Fire songs. I'm sure you know the amazing opening of the song "In The Stone." Maurice White loved horns. And I know off the top of your head you can play the horns on "Boogie Wonderland." The opening was a punchline used by Rodney Dangerfield in "Caddyshack." "Boogie Wonderland" became my new favorite song when it was released. I still love the hell out of it - out of all EW&F's catalog, actually. They were the shit. Re: speaking of music (jazz) - RgrF - 09-22-2015 Anyone here remember Kenny Ball and His Jazzmen? Before we married, my future wife and I decided on this as our song. That would have been about 50 years ago, it's my current ringtone and almost impossible to hear if the phone is more than two feet away - which allows me to avoid most calls and that suits me just fine.. Re: speaking of music (jazz) - August West - 09-22-2015 Pair of f'in communists! Re: speaking of music (jazz) - m.paris - 09-22-2015 Wow! the Kenny Ball "Midnight in Moscow" link is being played on the same model of tape deck that I still have in my stereo room. What a blast from the past - in more ways than one. Thank you. Re: speaking of music (jazz) - RgrF - 09-22-2015 vision63 wrote: That's hella dope. I've played it like 10 times now. Glad you got to hear it. Jazz has so many forms it can be hard to draw folks in since they tend to classify and then listen to what they decide is their sort of "Jazz". So now we rope in the rest with Dave Brubeck Re: speaking of music (jazz) - Wags - 09-22-2015 Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band Soli sections start about 1:40 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FVxY-KmWsYY |
