Aftermarket Magsafe chargers ? - cbelt3 - 08-29-2018 My daughters MBP's Magsafe charger met the Fangs of Doom belonging to her little orange cat. (The previous one was nommed by her Chihuahua) I bought this. Should I have stuck with an Apple unit ? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07G484CBT Re: Aftermarket Magsafe chargers ? - GGD - 08-29-2018 Without even considering what the product is, the fact that there are only two reviews in almost two years on Amazon would make me cautious. Re: Aftermarket Magsafe chargers ? - space-time - 08-29-2018 Do not even consider non-Apple chargers, except maybe for a reputable firm like OWC Newertech branded (if they make those, not sure, never checked). Instead buy Magsafe cables on Amazon and learn how to repair. Re: Aftermarket Magsafe chargers ? - OWC Jamie - 08-29-2018 For laptops I always r commend OEM . That may change with USB-C , dunno yet. Re: Aftermarket Magsafe chargers ? - testcase - 08-29-2018 Don't do it. Re: Aftermarket Magsafe chargers ? - Ombligo - 08-29-2018 Just buy one from OWC, not Amazon or eBay. Re: Aftermarket Magsafe chargers ? - max - 08-29-2018 I think you'all are overthinking this. After the original went belly up I just got Chinese OEM copies on eBay, for about $18 each, I have one at home, one in the backpack, one at work. Several years later of them still work as new (except for the one somebody ran over with a forklift), no fraying, no fires, and no problems.... Re: Aftermarket Magsafe chargers ? - tenders - 08-29-2018 Count your blessings, then, max, because every non-Apple MBP power supply I’ve ever bought has been junk. And I’ve tried a lot of non-Apple MBP power supplies. OWC sold refurbs a couple of years ago and they were all junk too, (sorry OWC). I hate paying Apple prices on something so rudimentary but the alternatives were simply unacceptable. Can’t wait for USB C charging. Works amazingly on my Chromebooks. Fast chargers are REALLY FAST. Regular USB chargers are PERFECTLY FINE, they just take a while. Re: Aftermarket Magsafe chargers ? - BobC - 08-29-2018 I bought a MagSafe-1 charger from OWC a few months back. It was used, but genuine Apple, and it's been great so far. |
