My parents got the Pfizer vaccine this morning - space-time - 01-25-2021

Romanian government opened the registration to anyone over 65. I found out last weekend, called them, they said "meh".

Old stubborn people. I yelled at them, they reluctantly went online, created an account an registered. Next day website crashed. I think they fixed it, but all spots are gone.

so their turn was today at 3 PM local time. They got a call at 10 AM, can you come sooner? sure when? how about now? OMW.

They place was 30 min away so around 11 AM they were there. They had the forms filled at home, but medical staff said nah, tell me and we type it in. So they took a few minutes to register, 2 min to get the shot, then 15 min under observation in a large room with plenty of space between patients. everyone (staff, patients) wore masks.

They asked about the second doze (they were automatically registered for Feb 15). The medical staff said they second dose is guaranteed once you get the first dose.

When they left they got a vaccination certificate, with various digital signatures so you can't modify it.

They said they were impressed at how well they were organized. In other places was chaos, for sure. But this center was top notch.

They did not open a vaccination center in their small town, which is why they had to travel ~25 miles to another town. That small town is well known for their good hospital.

It's logistically impossible to use the Pfizer vaccine in a small town because it requires ultracold storage (-70C) only available typically in large, sophisticated facilities, and they have to dethaw and vaccinate in batches of 975, which would potentially overwhelm some small locales.

Glad that the got it and it was available to them.

I'm trying to get an appointment for my 91 year old mother in NYC, but it looks like the only places in the entire state taking appointments are Potsdam and Plattsburgh.

The NY problem seems to be entirely supply limited, yet the news stories I see on TV is about how there's a need to do training for people to administer the vaccine.

its a town with 20k people, probably about 1/4 of that over 65. They do plan to do vaccines there, they just didn't get to it yet... but yes I see your point.

My mom got hers last week, but called me this morning to say someone called to schedule her first shot. She told them she had already had it.
I reminded her I had signed her up online, to get a call to schedule her first shot, before she was able to make contact herself with the health department, and told her she might eventually get a call.
I was surprised she finally got the call from my online sign up.

he died 4 years ago, she is here about to return to Romania, so we're not sure if she can get the shots here or once she returns.
