Dead MacBook Pro - what should i do? - mattkime - 03-16-2009 Finally fixed up the screen and took my MacBook Pro (15" 2.2Ghz) in expecting a fix under warranty due to the NVidia failure extended warranty coverage. Nada. hm, there's part of me that wonders if i can just press my finger against the video chip to make it work like with the iBooks. I have a MacBook Pro with a dead logic board and a dent. I can pay apple $400 to fix it and then ebay it, ebay it broken, or ???. Tell me what to do. The iBook was more like a bad solder joint. Squeezing would restore physical contact...as long as it was squeezed. The Nvidia chip thing is just a bad chip. Re: Dead MacBook Pro - what should i do? - mattkime - 03-16-2009 >>The Nvidia chip thing is just a bad chip. Yes, but if that was the problem then Apple would replace it under warranty. So I'm assuming its not. Re: Dead MacBook Pro - what should i do? - Acer - 03-16-2009 Why did they reject it this time? I presume you fixed the dent so that was not an issue. Did they already have the dent on record? I'd say ebay it AS-IS (broken) and cut your losses. You'll probably get a surprisingly good figure for it. Let some guy with a spare logic board have at it. Re: Dead MacBook Pro - what should i do? - mattkime - 03-16-2009 >>Why did they reject it this time The NVidia test simply didn't report that it was a faulty graphics chip. I have no idea how the test works but thats what it says. |
