Dead MacBook Pro - what should i do?
#1
Finally fixed up the screen and took my MacBook Pro (15" 2.2Ghz) in expecting a fix under warranty due to the NVidia failure extended warranty coverage. Nada.

hm, there's part of me that wonders if i can just press my finger against the video chip to make it work like with the iBooks.

I have a MacBook Pro with a dead logic board and a dent. I can pay apple $400 to fix it and then ebay it, ebay it broken, or ???.

Tell me what to do.

I had this issue, and I don't think it can be fixed with pressure. The iBook was more like a bad solder joint. Squeezing would restore physical contact...as long as it was squeezed.

The Nvidia chip thing is just a bad chip.

Yes, but if that was the problem then Apple would replace it under warranty. So I'm assuming its not.

Why did they reject it this time? I presume you fixed the dent so that was not an issue. Did they already have the dent on record?

I'd say ebay it AS-IS (broken) and cut your losses. You'll probably get a surprisingly good figure for it. Let some guy with a spare logic board have at it.

The NVidia test simply didn't report that it was a faulty graphics chip. I have no idea how the test works but thats what it says.
