He's not the heir. He has the millions. His children (which now includes his girlfriend) are the heirs.

If the guy had any self-awareness, he would have eaten a pistol by now.

I wonder how many people read this story and they have had a loved one killed by a DUI driver,
then plan a trip To Florida with high calibre weapons . . .

<< Goodman, 48, is not the sole heir to a heating and air conditioning fortune. He created a furor when he adopted his 42-year-old socialite girlfriend, Heather Hutchins, as his daughter, apparently in a bid to protect his wealth from lawsuits. >>

Apparently the author doesn't want to bother revealing another reason why someone might protect his trust fund.
His GF/"daughter" now has control of and access to a portion of a trust fund set up for all his kids. (iirc, he has 2 natural borns)

Trust funds usually are not allowed consideration nor plundering as assets for determining civil punishment debts.
They can go after anything he owns, but not his kids' stuff.

ordinarily, the Judge would not allow a claim like that unless there is some support for it. Either an expert witness is going to testify that the car did malfunction, or the Defendant is going to have to testify to say that. If he testifies, he is taking a significant risk, and most don't. If there is no evidence at trial to support the claim, that it will be disregarded (or should).

Probably not, once the biological children get their day in court.

They've already retained counsel and are challenging any modification of the trust.

Whomever is trustee bears personal liability for any losses the above suffer.
