Fedex Priority Overnight, 2 days later (no delivery, yet)
#11
I had a hazardous materials package (reloading gunpowder) shipped across country to me....
The shipping company ( RPS, later eaten by FedEx to become FedEx Ground) took 11 days to get it to the local hub, 11 miles from my house. They sat on it for 3 days (left it in the rain... ). Then, after getting a couple calls from the company that shipped it to me, instead of delivering it to me, they MAILED IT (USPS, quite illegally, by putting tape over the "Hazardous Materials" stickers), which took another 4 days because the sopping wet box was coming apart.
I let my mail carrier know that neither I, nor the sending company, was responsible for the illegal shipping of Haz-Mat via the USPS.
Being an awesome mail carrier (I REALLY miss him since I moved!), he took down some facts, and promised to let his supervisor know to have a word with RPS.

I did get a very nice refund of the shipping costs from the vendor I bought the powder from. I still deal with that vendor today because of that. (Powder Valley, inc, if anyone needs reloading supplies...).

Where was I? Oh, yeah...
I would be inclined to ask for a refund on the shipping, given that "Priority Overnight" is QUITE a substantial cost difference from the low-end ground service.
If I'm paying the extra buck for Overnight, then I'm a lot less understanding when it doesn't arrive OVER NIGHT!
But that's me. Smile

Paul,

Clay could try but the request would be denied due to inclement weather. It would be a different matter entirely weather didn't play a role in the delay.

unrelated other than shipping, but I discovered that when I ship a package to Nevada from PA, it first goes to California then NV.

edit: USPS

USPS Has a major shipping hub/airport in California. Constantly annoys me that it's a major destination but the shipping rates there make it seem like it's a desolate island. I hate shipping to the west coast, rates are always absurdly high.

Entirely probable...
But making a challenge to them that the weather "wasn't that bad"... well... can't hurt nothin' to try!

Paul,

Not just probable. Guaranteed. Clay would be wasting his time. FWIW, I just received _another_ notification from Fedex about delays due to inclement weather.

I ordered flowers from 1800Flowers.com as a Valentine's Day gift for a friend. Delivery was guaranteed for V-Day - they still haven't arrived.

Or is this what you're telling your "friend?";-)

Maybe you ordered them for 2/14/2016.

Yesterday, with the storm raging, UPS delivered a 27" iMac I'll be setting up for a senior. It came up the east coast from FL and made it to me on Long Island, NY in three days (ground service)!
