Tax question - Does she file?
#1
My mother had no taxable income, but she did sell her condo (tax exempt), so her return shows no income and no taxes owed.

Is there any reason to even file a return? She hasn't in years but I wasn't sure if the house sale changed anything. She's 99, so I don't think she has much to fear in any case.

It may protect against future audits and it provides a record for other purposes such as settling the estate.

Before my dad died, I filed his zero tax returns on paper (EZ) just for bookkeeping sake, to guard against future audits.
