Americans' Food Stamp Use Nears All-Time High

>>making sweeping statements that are not remotely true

You mean like this one:

>>>No, at least the Democrats are pragmatic. Instead of saying "this should not happen therefore it hasn't," they say, "this should not happen" and deal with the problem.

I'll admit that I "painted with too broad a brush", just as you did, but I wasn't saying _you_ do anything. Just democrats in general.

My point is that democrats tend to believe the solution to social issues is gov't intervention. I don't believe it is, at all. Like I said, all people need to do more on a personal level. The gov't does a horrible job providing for peoples' welfare. They need a lot of help, to say the least.

Btw, I infuriate you? Who would ever expect to get annoyed on an internet forum? kj.

Fine, the conservatives do not believe in feeding the needy hungry. It's a good thing that the Democrats won, then, because this country has suffered enough from that kind of selfishness. Just as I do not want my tax money spent on bombs for Iraq, you do not want your tax money to go to feeding our poor. Why don't we agree that you can pay for the bombs and I can pay for the food? Seems fair to me.

One more thing. If this isn't meant to be inflamatory, I don't know what is. Can you think of a different way to be generous, without agreeing to pay huge taxes? I hope you can. And again, you're assuming all conservatives are pro-war, and anti-poor people. Exactly the type of statement I made. What we're disagreeing on is the way to go about helping the poor, not whether they should be helped. kj.

I stand by what I said above. I do not see a reason to repeat it. It is clearly written and understandable. You seem to have chosen to misinterpret it. Not my problem.

Well, that's just infuriating. kj.

I am mostly a democrat. I am personally very conservative financially, and wish that my government were equally careful with its resources.
However I do not want to have to sit on my porch all day with a baseball bat waiting to fend off hordes of desperate needy people who have no other option than to loot and pillage. Thus I am willing to have my tax money go to social services that keep people from becoming completely destitute and desperate. I would like to see those programs run responsibly and am willing to pay for adequate administration costs to hopefully assure some degree of oversight.
I am sorry that most other democrats apparently would like to see taxes raised and their money given out indiscriminately to anyone in the mood for a handout.
Would you like me to talk to them?

This isn't the point, at least to me. I just don't like the job the gov't does, and I do wonder if the money's well spent, ever. The thing I find objectionable here is how quickly the discussion turns to how most conservatives want poor people to starve to death. Do you really think that's true? It's about as true as your quote above, probably less so. kj.
