What is this? Pop up in Safari with red warning sign saying something about an ip address?

First step in troubleshooting for me would be to check which if any machines have fixed IP addresses and which get assigned addresses through DHCP or whatever other means. Then check to make certain none of the fixed IP addresses are in the range assigned through DHCP.

Gene, if you don't have a specific requirement to have a device(s) use a static IP address, you'd be much better off setting all clients to use DHCP and let the router assign addresses as needed.
Dan, where are the settings found and how do I know what to use for settings? As far as I know, the settings that I'm using were worked out with the assistance of Buffalo tech support when I installed my new router almost a year ago. I've not experienced any problems with the settings since then until this "anomaly."

Could it just be a transient glitch and nothing to worry about?

Yes.

If it is working for you now then any effort to find out what happened is a waste of time.
If it happens frequently then troubleshooting is in order.

Some routers do get confused for a moment and clears it up.

It is what it is.

Thanks all!

It seems that what I experienced was a harmless glitch and I'm not going to worry about it unless it occurs again.

I'm pretty sure that my router and system are safe, password protected and all.

That you posted the icon really helped, Wild eep.

Possibly one device's lease on a specific IP address had expired due to being dormant or asleep (settable in your router's configuration page) and another machine had been given the identical IP address in the meantime. You got that message when the original device woke up. As stated above, don't worry unless it starts happening often.
