I'm going to replace a part in my oven. Step one of instructions says to unplug appliance. But the plug is behind the thing and it's a bit of a hassle to slide it out far enough to unplug it. It's certainly doable, but I'm wondering if it wouldn't be just as effective – if not even better – to flip the circuit breaker off. It will certainly be easier. Power off is power off, no?

Just be sure you turnoff the correct breaker.

Thanks, folks. I guess I was wondering why that option wasn't mentioned in the instructional video. Probably because in most instances it's a no-brainer to pull the plug. And yes, that breaker is one of the few that's actually labeled. But I'll still confirm it before futzing around with the oven.

That'll be 220, so be sure the breaker has the two switches linked and both are off. Personally, I'd pull it away from the wall and unplug it. Might be a few dust bunnies behind that could use some cleaning anyway.

Ow. The cost of hitting the wrong breaker is very serious indeed. Enough so to unplug the stove.
