If it's the cut I'm thinking of, the curtain cut, it had a minor resurgance a couple of years back. Win Butler of Arcade Fire was sporting one. Again, although it was commonly worn by the Hitler youth, it was a very standard cut.

Even the bottom 1/4 of every graduating class of new teachers get jobs and end up teaching kids - and some of them ARE downright scary-ignorant!

Not a new phenomenon.
I had a Current World History teacher back in junior high school (about a hundred years ago) who couldn't identify the then head of the UN during a discussion about the organization (many of the students did know.)
