Yeah. You can find batteries of the same advertised capacity whether 6-cell or 9-cell. Ordinarily, one would expect that the 9-cell batteries would have greater capacity, but that's not necessarily so.
...And in my search results, some of the ones that say they're 5800mAh in the title will say 5200mAh lower down on the page, so dunno how much you can count on advertised spec's.

You can run it just AC and no battery.
I doubt the opening would be a problem unless maybe you rested the 'Book on a bunch of metal bits.
With no battery, the loss of AC power means that anything unsaved will be lost. Move the 'Book too much or somebody trips on the power cord, buh-bye.
