[quote=PeterB]Also, I've observed firsthand that phone addiction is a very real thing -- if I were somehow able to get them to part with their phones for an hour, they would become VERY anxious and not know what to do with themselves.
One of the worst modern examples of bad parenting to let your kids get to this point. Most tech leaders that have kids severely limit their access.
Then I would say we have a very serious problem with bad parenting ... most, if not all, of my students fall into this category. https://bigthink.com/surprising-science/...tion-study
Hard to say at the moment if they are going to be a lost generation, or computer implants will herald a new stage in our evolution. In the 90's there was a Twilight Zone where 99.99% of the population had implants and couldn't even read paper books. Society was almost destroyed when the implants were taken over by a virus, but the few people without them allowed it to restart.
Yes, I've seen that episode. At the very least, I think we're looking at some very significant societal shifts in terms of things like what is considered appropriate social behavior -- for example, whether or not you have to respond to people who contact you, if it's acceptable to not make eye contact when interacting with other people, etc. See here: https://www.statepress.com/article/2017/...ial-skills and here: http://lighthousenetwork.org/study-smart...al-skills/
