Has anyone ridden megabus?
#21
I just did a quick dry-run booking on Megabus site. December date, weekday. $1 fare. And I had to leave at 11:30 at night. Arriving at 1:30 in the morning. LOL Even 2am-4am is up to $5. And 12am-2:15am is $11.

The friend did the OP a disservice by just bragging about the $1 fare but not telling him the whole story with booking months in advance and being forced to choose one single oddball time.

What's Megabus?

I thought it was some David Hasselhoff straight-to-DVD movie.

If this is the case, it's weird that the friend would only say it's $1 without giving the whole story.

Unless that's truly unusual behavior for your friend, I'd say it's generally normal human behavior, as frequently demonstrated by this and many forums.

Somebody tosses a comment into the mix as though everybody should know what they're talking about. Follow up questions abound.

If I had to go to Sacramento, it would be on a train. I'd like to take an over train ride somewhere one day.

Everything this friend does is unusual behavior. He's a CPA with OCD and ADHD and is hopped up on 5-Hour Energy Drinks and B12 and insomnia and time on his hands. He will find the $1 tickets.

Tell me about. One guy at the class reunion said, "He's like a wind-up monkey."

How safe is Megabus and similar low cost bus companies?

Are the drivers properly trained and the busses well maintain and inspected?

Probably better than your typical Uber or Lyft driver.

Possibly, but a number of these low cost bus lines like Megabus have had a number of serious accidents, including with multiple fatalities. Studies done by several groups including the NTSB concluded the the fatality rate for travel by one of these carriers was about 6-7 times that of the traditional bus lines. That is still safer than travel by car.
