Facebook is creepy....

If you visited the clinic’s website, Facebook probably tracked you on the site or when you searched for the site, and the employees are regularly on the same website.

It is a major hospital with 1000s of people onsite. I find it suspect that the one person out of thousands that they suggested as a friend was the one who was in the same room.

On a side note, I wonder if this is an HIPAA violation in some way if Facebook is collecting data on Medical Provider/Client interactions. Obviously they aren't targeting or collecting healthcare information specifically, but they are collecting information that could be aggregated to be at that level depending on what people have shared on their page.

It's popular to say Facebook is creepy, but FB didn't invent the cell phone nor the immense amount of ways cell phones allow you to be tracked. Trust me, it wasn't only FB that knew where you were.

As for "them" (meaning your phone, actually) knowing who was in the room with you, if that bothers you then I'd think about putting your phone on Airplane Mode when you go to the doctor/hospital/whatever. You know damn well that bluetooth, airdrop, location services, wifi, etc are all poking around looking for other phones nearby.

I would call the HIPPA person at the clinic and see if they have an answer.

my solution is to not use Facebook, or other social media.

Unless you block the traffic with a software or hardware firewall (LittleSnitch or at your router), they're still tracking you.

So not worth it. First, you have to spend the time to research who that person is. Then if you call them they will just tell you they have no control over FB (and why are you wasting my time?).
