Has the Discussion on the best coffee taken place?
#31
I have a hard time justifying mail-order beans, but should give some a shot one day. But there are plenty of good local roasters for me to choose from already, and Trader Joe's whole bean coffees are a staple (love the Fair Trade Nicaraguan!).

I'm also a French Presser. A little more labor-intensive, but yields such satisfying coffee. Been considering trying out one of those vacuum pots because they're so wild-looking and supposedly produce coffee in the same league as a French Press.

I have tried Boca Java and boutique local shops..... in Maui, Portland, Seattle
It is really about personal tastes, habits... and adventure *(:>*

Pretty sure comparing MCd and other fast food places in same breath with coffee
correctly brewed via Expresso Machines or the French press is just a slight stretch

Yet again it is really about ones own personal thresh hold *(:>*
A fun topic

Not much of a coffee drinker these days. But the best I remember was 4 Roses from a time back in the '70's when I worked part time in a hotel kitchen. Anyone know if that brand still exists? I think they only sold to the resturant/hotel trade.

For brewing your coffee, I highly recommend the aeropress. It's rather like a plastic version of a french press, but makes espresso - and then you add more water (or milk.... tastes just like café au lait a la Café du Monde) if you want regular coffee. Community coffee (coffee & chicory) can tend to end up a bit bitter, esp. if over brewed - coffee I make at home has never tasted better. The thing cost $30 and makes comperable espresso to expensive coffee shop espresso machines - and it's almost ridiculously easy to clean - a big plus over the french press it replaced (thanks kitties!).

The smell of roasting coffee is a familiar one in NOLA, especially as I now live around the corner from a small coffee bean business that roasts their own. MIght have to actually put aside the Community for a day or two and try out some of their stuff Wink

The best cup of coffee is one consumed together with a delicious dessert.

I used to drink regular coffee, but now am relegated to decaf only. Try and find a decent decaf! It's near impossible. I'm also in the single-serve pod generation. Single-serve is nice when you don't want to drink a lot of coffee.
