OK, I misread you too, Steve... it wasn't that you don't get the Milli Vanilli scandal, you just don't get Milli Vanilli!
And on that we can agree...

Hey:
1. I like Milli and Vanilli
2. I bought their CD
3. People's voices are so augmented by stuff nowadays that 50% or more of what you HEAR is not there if sang a cappela and as such the scandal did not bother me.
4. I have my UNCASHED Milli Vanilli class action lawsuit $3 check still

The summers of 1989 and 1990, I worked at Lakewood Amphitheater (in Atlanta, now Hi-Fi Buys Amphitheater) doing security. Milli Vannili was one of the shows in 1989. This was after they won the Grammy but before the scandal was exposed.
We had to put 2 extra people guarding the soundboard to make sure noone got near it. After the lights went down, before they went on stage, their own sound guys were calling back to the Green Room in back to tell them to hurry up and get on stage because they had started the CD (of the show, presumably).
I always though Indigo Girls should have won Best New Artist Grammy that year.

I do sometimes wonder, though, why the actual 'vocalists' never made anything of themselves.
I used to have a cassette of their demo they recorded to try and prove that they could sing. It removes all doubts. God-awful.
