a fee for an online reservation?
#11
[quote Chupa Chupa][quote kap]I don't know if I can contest the charge since I used my debit card :-( lesson learn always use a credit card for any type of online purchase. As you can tell I am not keen on a credit card usage.

Debit card users have the SAME rights as credit card users. Yes, you can dispute a charge you didn't make.
yes, you can dispute a charge but the process is longer and with a debit card the money is GONE from your account until you institute a dispute. with a credit card you have the protection of money never having been disappeared from your bank account and avoid the possibility and hassle of checks bouncing because your funds are no longer there.

Chupa and graylocks are correct.

I've disputed charges successfully, never lost one. Wells Fargo gives a temporary credit while they investigate your claim.

I don't see why you'd have a basis for a complaint if the fee was disclosed.

Fees for doing online booking are heinous, however legal they may be. Ok, onerous, at least. You save somebody the cost of face-to-face personnel, and should be credited accordingly.

I also avoid places that charge for your use of an ATM card, assuming they also take checks. The savings in bad checks should pay for the equipment.

That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

I've disputed a debit charge through my account at Wamu, the money was back in my account within 5 days.

WaMu is also our bank. I am still in a dispute with them about charging $60 for insufficient funding even though the online transaction indicated otherwise.
