Definitely check out craigslist, or any recycled building materials places in your area.
Also, I don't know how soon you need them, but if you can wait until the end of the school year pretty much any college or university that has dorms will have an abundance of blocks out by the dumpsters on move-out day. Many kids use them to prop of their beds for more storage space underneath, and they are too heavy and big to take home, so out they go.

This is what I'm talking about and how I know the big boxes around my college town would buy them back. Friends of mine would go around to several colleges and collect all the discarded cinder blocks before the universities could. Lowes or HD would buy them back. |
