Macbook shutdown isues
#1
My wife's Macbook has started to shutdown randomly. No warning. What are my troubleshooting steps? I tried resetting the SMC but that didn't seem to help. It almost seems like a power issue to me. I'm covered through AppleCare through April, so I'll probably call in the morning. I'm downloading TechTools Deluxe right now.

You could try the Hardware Test disc. It should be one of the original installation discs for that MacBook. Run the extended tests.

...

'Might as well make the Genius appointment now.

Is it happening with or without the battery or with the machine plugged in.

Is there any indications in the logs?

is it overheating? I think there are some utilities to monitor the CPU and other components temperature, try iStat Pro for example

I haven't really done any troubleshooting yet. So far it seems to happen when my wife watches a flash based video. I can hear the fans spin up but that happens on every Mac that we have when watching Flash video so I don't think that is the cause but it might be an issue.
