Just accidentally learned a new trackpad gesture (As Eddy Izzard says, "It's less of a maneuver, more of a gesture.). I'm pretty sure I'm one of the last to know:
While your cursor is *anywhere* in the classic Message Viewer window, swipe up or down with three fingers. It moves you up or down one message in your list. Cool extra is that it doesn't "scroll" or run through them like the two-fingered scroll in Safari. Instead the gesture "sticks" to the next message in line. Handy
Not quite on par as the discovery of penicillin, but there you go.
