We have several gastronomy experts on this board as well as our resident Food Expiration Expert...Paul F.

The guy was 23 when the lard was canned...

A German pensioner who received a tin of American lard 64 years ago in an aid package has only just tasted it, after discovering that it is still edible.

"I just didn't want to throw it away," said Hans Feldmeier, 87.

Just throw it away

Lard is a preservative... so he had a can of preservative.

My husband used to cook with lard, when I first met him. When he wasn't cooking with bacon fat. :oldfogey:
