[quote tronnei]Monday July 3 is smack dab in the middle of the long holiday "weekend." So eBay traffic will be down, likely resulting in a lower selling price.
Ahhh, I forgot Monday was the long holiday weekend, there goes the Work crowd. Between Noon PSTand 3pm EST people aren't likely to be surfing eBay to snipe. They are out at the Park or in the Backyard.
Hope he does okay....
EDIT: IMHO his shipping is a little cheap to $17.05 to my Zip code (but $29 to California, I thought USPS Priority was flat rate not distance).
$20 to $30 flat rate is acceptable with iBooks. $25 shipping wouldn't turn anyone off on a portable if you did Box in Box shipping nor would cheap $17 shipping case anyone to bid higher.
That $8-15 shipping increase may pay for his listing or paypal fees.

I'm a believer in the fact that if you have a good item, it doesn't really matter what time or what day the auction ends.
I also have not used a Reserve for a long time, until recently when a number of auctions stayed really low. I had a slot-load G3 iMac 400MHz that sold for $12.00 which I think is too low. So I'm back to reserves which I really don't like, but I will use them for a while and see what happens.

I stopped listing popular items for a dollar. In my opinion they get bid up far more than they’re worth and that is not my intent. I simply want a fair price for buyer and seller.
I’ve had auctions in the past where I’ve stated the item was NOT WORTH more than $1K only to have it go for $1.2K. To me there’s just something dishonest by selling, even to the naive, something for significantly more than its worth.
That said, I don’t think $800 is unfair for the configuration you have listed. It could be had a little cheaper and it could be had for a lot more. Be happy with $800, but be content that $700 would be a good deal for both parties.

I think compared to Apple selling a refurb for $799, $800 is ok. It is still under warranty and Applecare eligable. He also added extra ram. Its kind of a wash...do you want warranty or ram? It will sell, and I bet he gets $800 for it. It will be even better if Apple runs out of refurbs (they did during my ibook auction). People still want ibooks...it will go to someone who is not in the know when it comes to Apple products....I'm keeping my eye on this one.

I see your point, but I still believe its a market-decides thing. I remember selling two original (toilet seat) iBooks on eBay; they were in really bad shape (they were not originally mine; I'm far too O/C for that). I stated in the auction they were not IMO worth more than $40 or so but each sold for about $125, if I remember correctly. I still chat with one of the buyers who uses it in the field and says it still works great.
So, no, I don't think it's dishonest if you're honest in your listing and how you approach the sale. A $1 opening bid with no reserve and an accurate description is about as honest as you can get in terms of a listing. I usually also list the list price, street price, and sometimes what I originally paid for the item, in addition to its age.
You're not getting more than an item is worth, you're getting what the bidder believes the item is worth, or at least what it's worth to them.

My opinion about reserves is post the amount in the auction; don't make it a secret, see-if-you-can-bid-high-enough game.
Just my 2¢.

I would agree. The whole point of a reserve is to protect your selling price not keep it a secret.
