These guys have very low priced 3D printers. they advocate open source and do not use proprietary supplies.

They are all Mac for there business. The owner has a great story and gave a wonderful presentation to out local Sacramento Mac User group since they are based nearby in Lincoln, CA

Printrbot also just announced a CNC router at Maker Fair. They have an iPad version of the software to control it too. They have a video on their YouTube channel, but it has so much background noise you can't hear a thing they're saying about it.

Looks almost exactly like my MakerBot.

The original MakerBot was opensource. They changed their business model for MakerBot2. There were companies making blatant part-for-part knock-offs with absolutely no improvements over their design.

I recall (I've had several MakerBots, including the newest Replicators...). MakerBot was also bought out by Stratasys, in the Fall, but you might have known that.

Thanks for posting.

I'm interested in 3D printers, but I've been unwilling to pull the trigger.

Speaking of pulling the trigger on a 3-D printer...
There is a project on a competitive shooting forum I am on, to replicate unobtainable replacement rifle magazines for Russian Biathlon rifles. The surplus rifles are very affordable for their accuracy level, but the plastic magazines are all but impossible to find.

So, they are working on prototypes before they crank up production here in the states. Great grassroots project.
