Amazon Prime Unlimited Cloud storage for Photos
#11
I just want a way to back up my photos that gets them out of my home and doesn't cost a fortune. I'll need to figure out if I can export an iPhoto library to it somehow. They'll probably consider that a file rather than photos...

RAW files can also be quite large.

RAW is a long-established file format for digital images - they absolutely should be able to support it. Whether they choose to is another matter entirely.

But... where from the text your quoted do you get that they don't support RAW?

It's in the link under the question...what file formats are supported?

"We support the uploading of images in JPG, TIF and PNG formats. "

I think freeradical is correct in that RAW is not one single format.

You can sync your entire iPhoto collection to flickr from within iPhoto. How to: https://support.apple.com/kb/PH2433?locale=en_US

Regardless of what you ultimately choose. Everybody should be doing this ANYWAY.

I've been backing up to an external hard drive and periodically moving it off-site, but that really isn't the best solution. The last time that I looked at Flickr it required that I pay to get a useable amount of storage, and the photos were modified as they were uploaded. I'll have to look into it again. I'll admit, it's been years since I last looked at it.

This might be that extra bit that gets me into Prime - I've resisted HARD, but it's WAY more than just free 2day shipping now.

Export all your photos from iPhoto before uploading.

You can do that too. They didn't modify your photos. They limited how many and how big they could be. That was a long time ago. You have full control of your images and how they're used (to the extent that one can protect them in this tech age). They never cost a fortune. $25 a year.

If all you want is photo storage, flickr is 1TB for free.

And for $25 bux, it's unlimited.
Unless they've changed it again, that is the old (grandfathered) rate. Now if you pay for Pro, all it does is remove the ads.
