About salads...

I like a well stocked salad bar. I couldn't replicate all the extras they have, and if I tried that at home there would be a lot of waste.

My sister is coming up for a visit this weekend and said she would make me a pasta salad. Yummy! :yum:

I can't make it as well as hers, so I'm really looking forward to it. No leafy greens in that salad!

Ruby Tuesday has a nice unlimited salad bar for cheap. Skip the leafy greens and fill your plate with the good stuff. It's not fine dining, but I like it.

I don't know that we have a Tuesday's out my way, but do the name Ruby Begonia sound familiar?

We do have a Sweet Tomatoes and a Fresh Choice chain that specialize in salads. Meanwhile I'll cue (or queue?) Sympathy...


A little bit of green leafy stuff is good for color contrast.

Again, red and green bells. They do the job nicely, and for me, presentation is secondary.

Rolando, I've had carrots and raisins in salad, and it's fine. But I much prefer them in cake. With walnuts. Walnuts in salad! Yes.

A-Polly, thanks for the suggestion. I really had no idea that salads without lettuce were big. At various eateries I've frequented even Greek salads have lettuce, as filler or padding, no doubt. I don't do a lot of fine dining.

I appreciate all the constructing intel and suggestions. I think we can put a fork in this.

Sorry, that wasn't meant to be a slight. My surprise stems from the fact that any supermarket deli section around here has probably far more non-leaf salads than leaf salads (pasta, caprese, bean, beet, carrot, corn, pepper, greek, broccoli, cucumber, potato, macaroni, etc, etc.). Likewise, most restaurants have several types of non-leaf salads on offer. I don't think this is particularly unusual, so I'm wondering where you live that such things aren't common.

Yup. Midnight snackage. Bet if you put a bowl of them out at a party they'd be a huge hit.
