I agree with you - no corporation is completely trustworthy. I do believe, however, that some are more trustworthy than others. For me, Apple falls into that category, at least for now.
That's fair enough. We all have to weight the pros and cons and see how these wonderful little gadgets and services fit into our own life.
Fantasy. They are "only" trustworthy to themselves. Apple is no more trustworthy than Google. I suppose iAD's just randomly deliver ads to it's customers? Lord. Believe anything.

Again, it's called developing the conversation.
No, what you do is taking a simple statement and using it as an opportunity to bash Apple. If you were truly interested in just developing a conversation, you wouldn't have started with a false premise.
Stating you were developing a conversation is disingenuous.
Nope, you have to have another iOS device to do most of that. Pretty sure Passbook and Apple Pay don't work without one. I meant truly stand alone
You are incorrect. Though the Watch's autonomy is limited to the functions I mentioned, they are standalone. Using the Watch with the 'Phone present allows for more functionality.
If you mean using the functions I mentioned without ever owning a compatible 'Phone, you are partially correct.
You continue to base your idea of a "conversation" on the premise of Apple Pay as the sole reason to buy the Watch, a premise that doesn't exist. That is disingenuous. A few people in forums have reported they did upgrade so as to be able to use the Apple Pay with or without the Watch. That's why I said 99%. And really, seldom is anything 100%, right?
So far, nobody is saying that anyone, let alone you, should spend any money to adopt Apple Pay. But that was the basis of your whole "talking point". Given that most buyers of the Watch would probably have still made the purchase without the possibility of Apple Pay, being able to use it is just another feature.
As just another feature of a smartwatch, using Apple Pay pay does not have a "stupidly expensive" buy-in cost. To say otherwise is pure misdirection with a lot of opinion couched as fact.
Some people would say it's stupidly expensive to buy a BMW, Lexus, or Mercedes when a Civic is the same thing. Even worse to buy one of them just for BT connectivity. That would be their opinion. But not that many people upgrade or buy in just because they have BT compatibility, right?
The thread went the way it did because you steered it to be about you and the expense of using Apple Pay. I took/take issue not so much with the direction but your methodology.

Wait.. you can use the Apple Watch without an iPhone for Apple Pay? I thought that you needed an iPhone?
If so, then the entry cost to use Apple Pay is $350, if not, then the entry cost is $650.
