my daughter has been accepted in a clinical psych phd program at the university of alabama in tuscaloosa.
...... alabama's program is arguably the best in the country.

Considering the native population, that makes perfect sense.

Congrats to your daughter nonetheless.
And just what do you really know about the south? Whew, I get tired of all the northern bigotry, stereotyping, and otherwise prejudicial attitudes some northerners have toward the south. Neither of us are more elite, better than the other, sophisticated, except in our own minds when we display arrogance that comes from within. Yep, Omb, I don't like what you said.

Tuscaloosa. I go through it very often. Seems to be a decent small university town. Congratulations, robfilms, to all!

Well 'Bless your Heart,' I have lived here for the last 49 years (no, not south Florida - I live closer to Alabama and Georgia than I do to that area)

So relax already

If your tuscaloosa, get your elephant to an orthodontist! They might be salvageable.

In GA, we've always said that the only good thing to come out of Alabama is I-20. Seriously, though, congrats to your daughter.

Just what sort of info were you looking for? Where she's going to live is going to depend on whether she wants to rent an apartment or buy a condo or house and whether she wants to live a walking distance from the campus or drive in from the burbs every day.

Politically, the city itself is left-center while the surrounding areas are conservative. Public transportation is decent on campus and the downtown area but very spotty further out. Crime certainly is not rampant and is mostly the kind of minor theft and Fri/Sat nite rowdiness you would expect near an urban university. Medical facilities are top-notch.

We live about 60 miles southwest of T-town and we've been here for 26 years. If you've got any specific questions, I'd be happy to try to answer them for you.
