adware on (slightly) older computer
#1
My grandmother is running 10.8.5 and today she was infected with adware. I tried to install malwarebytes but it requires 10.9. Then I installed ESET, which I run at home, and had to leave due to my schedule. Will ESET be adequate to clean up adware or is it likely I will need another tool? If so, what runs on 10.8.5? Thanks for any advice.

ps. I do not wish to upgrade the OS on her computer as she has dementia and I don't want to confuse her.

There is not enough diff between ML and Mavericks to cause a problem with familiarity, IMHO. She would be safer online with Mavs. The precursor to MalwareBytes might be able to fix the current problem. It's called Adware Medic.

good luck getting that fixed. Was she running as an administrator and/or does she know the admin password? I would change that and set up her up with a user account. I didn't think adware or any malware could install itself without admin privileges.

Do you remote login to her computer? I had to do that to my inlaws computer instead of driving over all the time. They are 20minutes away on the freeway. Saved me tons of time and gas.
