That 16GB gets full quickly. Upgrade to at least 64GB to keep your wife happy. Wife is at 64GB and on 6s Plus that she got replaced recently at the Apple Store. She is on year three. New 6S plus replaced under AppleCare. Getting her a 128GB 8 Plus for Xmas.

FYI Apple upped the minimum memory in their iPhone's about 2 years ago to 32 GB minimum (6S, 7, SE) while the iPhone 8 and X are both 64 GB minimum.

I just had this issue on my son's GF's phone last night. a few easy fixes --
1) turn on itunes password requirement on the phone. Then go into iTunes on the phone, go to search and search for the movie "Cleopatra", click on rent, it will churn a few seconds and then a warning will pop up that you don't have enough space to download it. Click OK, and do that a few more times. Each time will free up some space - don't actually rent the movie, you don't need too.
However that can take a great deal of time to do.
2) delete the facebook app, then reinstall it cleanly. That app has a gazillion hidden files created whenever it is used with no easy delete option. Dumping the app clears those out.
3) This is the easiest to me and worked last night -- back up the phone to iTunes (iCloud should work too). Do a
factory reset and then load the backup. Cleared out all the junk, freed up 10GB.

Thanks for this info, Ombligo. I had heard about the fake movie rental trick, but not the others. As for Facebook, by deleting then reinstalling the app, is she going to lose any special preferences she might have within the app? And the backup/reset/restore is how I've reclaimed space in the past. Guess it's time to do that again.
Appreciate the info.
