Wireless charging of iPhone. What are the benefits?

So last year I bought some 90º cables -- and damn if it didnt work -- still going strong.
Yes, I seem to buy a few cables and be done. My family may as well put them on the Amazon subscribe and save plan.

My daughter’s phone went wireless with an 8, my wife just ordered her wireless charging pad.

I estimate I’ll save the cost of all my wireless pads from one year less cable fees.

Not even close. Many cases like an Otterbox Commuter can't use a charger like that. Definitely can't use a charger like that with a rugged case like an Otterbox Defender.

It's adjustable, Robert, but yes, it's true: If you pack your svelte iPhone in a shipping crate like the Otterbox Defender, it's not a suitable charging stand.

Still not even close. The stand requires you to fiddle with a plug and set the phone down just right. Wireless charger, just drop the phone on the stand or the pad. No fiddling at all.

Wear and tear really depends on the end user. You 5+ years no problems vs my FIL 1.5 - 2 years.

If I hadn’t seen and tried the port myself I would have agreed with you about wear and tear. It was the springs on the side that hold the head in place, they got worn/damaged. Found out my FIL would charge every chance he gets. So he would charge at night, in his car, after work, during work (in and out of truck), in car again if he went out, back at home, walk around house, then charge again. 5 plus times a day charging. He lives by his phone for business and pleasure. Tried to tell him he doesn’t need to charge so often, but people do what they want.

As I’ve said before the Qi pad in a car is a joke unless you travel long distances or a last resort. But even as a last resort, a dead phone won’t come back to life anytime soon on a Qi pad vs plugged in.
