She doesn't work! Now, we do know that she gets a lot of income from her own rental (i.e. she rents her condo for 2x what she pays in rent for my wife's house), so if she had said her tenant stopped paying her, then it wouldn't have raised any flags on our side, and it would have made perfect sense. She did actually start paying rent again and paid all the back-rent (phew), but asked for a huge discount on the rent when her lease was up claiming rents had gone down (they had, but no where near the amount she was asking). We met her half-way. In normal times, we would have held firm or told her to move on, but the looming threat of non-payment made for a "take what you can get" situation. Los Angeles’ eviction protections will remain in place until one year after the City Council lifts its emergency order or May 2023, whichever is earlier... |
