Yacht Rock
#21
I hadn't heard of it until I "discovered" it (channel 310) during my 3 month trial of SiriusXM. That got me a little curious and then I found this on YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jMTI8vg7A5U&list=PLeYsjZ9XP_bQHak6Dr_BEJx8UgijPnMv5

I wasn't even aware of it until the band Yacht Rock Revue started getting a lot of buzz in Atlanta; that was a dozen or so years ago and it's practically a subculture here now. They sell out fair-sized venues (notably Chastain Park) at least a couple of times a year, own a bar and live venue of their own (Venkman's), tour nationally and have a bunch of offshoot bands.

The secret? They're really, really good. We caught Elton John's Vegas show about 3-4 years ago, then saw YRR a few weeks later.... and their version of "Tiny Dancer" crushed Elton's...

Their Beatles and Prince shows are the best.
