...and cars/trucks. Since people get charged with assault with a deadly weapon for purposfully plowing into a crowd, they qualify.

So you too have now been reduced to flogging the absurd "cars kill people too" trope?!
Do people die directly as a result of a car or light truck. Yes or no
Do people use cars or light trucks as deadly weapons? Yes or no
Accidentally or on purpose, do autos or light trucks kill @ 2.5 times as many humans in the US as firearms? Yes or no?
Obviously the answer is yes; yes you have lowered yourself to trotting out the beyond-ludicrous cars-equal-guns equivalency. That smacks of desperation.
It's pointing out that interest balancing has occured and it allows 50K fatalities a year. Not even concerned enough to mandate breathalyzer interlocks to all but eliminate alcohol-related DUIs. :dunno:

I love the "Cars kill People, Too" fallacy!

Let's also do all the things we do to cars/drivers to guns/gun owners as well:

Eye exams
Licensing
Required training under a learner's permit before licensing
Knowledge exams
Insurance
Inspections
Constant improvements in safety
Loss of license for irresponsible behaviour
Etc.

Which then receives the inevitable reply (from the person who attempted the equivocation)..."Cars & driver's licenses aren't a Constitutional right!"

Maybe gun rights shouldn't be, then. Or at least they should be subject to that list above. You know, WELL REGULATED or something. Too bad the writer's of the Bill of Rights didn't think of that.

Since they banned assault style weapons for the public in Australia, cars have been the number one weapon of choice for mass murderers.

Actually, I have no idea, I just made that up, as it's completely ludicrous, of course.
