just venting.
I'm constantly asked about my "Linked In page," but I decommissioned that 10 years ago. I found it not to be of any use to find a job just to talk to other people who are also looking for a job. My impression is that it is just another social network and I have had enough of those, although I really do not participate in any at the moment. Has anyone, ever, found a gig by being on LI and getting hooked up? I just don't see it.
I'm not a fan either but as someone who has been in and around business schools for 40+ years, it is a necessary evil. My last job came through my (non-LI) network, and I tend to get directly contacted by headhunters inquiring about my interest in jobs I would never consider (at this time in my life, I don't need the headaches of trying to rescue doomed institutions).
My son got a job with Amazon after I helped him spruce up his LI account (he would have been happier if he hadn't gotten the job). Whether his LI entry helped or not, I'm not sure, but I'd like to think that it helped him negotiate a very nice compensation package. :burnout:
